POTOC Events

POTOC host a range of local events throughout the year. These events are perfect for beginners and club orienteers of different standards.

The events listed below are open to everyone, so why not come along and give orienteering a try? There are always plenty of people who will be on hand to offer advice and support should it be required.

Urban Orienteering EventWhitehill (Kidsgrove) Urban Event - POTOC 2018 Spring Urban Series

Date : Wednesday 30th May

Start Times : 18.30 - 19.15

Format : 45 min score event (find as many controls as possible within the 45 min time frame)

Cost : Free (Please inform the club (via email or Facebook event confirmation) if you wish to attend so enough maps can be printed off)

Event Information : This activity starts at the Birchenwood Sports Complex Carpark, which can be accessed via Mount Road, Kidsgrove. It will take in the urban surrounds of Birchenwood and Whitehill. After the event everyone is invited to the Chatterley Whitfield Pub (Hungry Horse), ST6 5GA.

This will be the same simple format used previously. Control Sites are located at a feature on the map, eg Road Junction and will be positioned where a small sticker can be attached on a prominent feature such as a Lamppost . Each sticker will have a control Identification LETTER and code NUMBER. The competitor has to note down the NUMBER each time a control is located. This will be on the back of the map next to the Control Descriptions.

Registration will be from the planners vehicle, with the Start and Finish very close or at the Vehicle. Post event everyone is invited to the hosting venue for drinks / refreshments. No formal results will be published (to conform to the rules of BOF for training events) however an informal list of scores will be produced.

Event Information :

REGISTRATION AND STARTS AT Longton Park , Cocknage Road, ST3 4NZ. Car park at Chaplin Road entrance.

From LONGTON at A50 take the A5035 to TRENTHAM.

After about 1.0km turn left into Queens Park Road, which continues as Cocknage Road.

Follow the park on RHS to the top entrance at Chaplin Road junction.

POTOC Hanley Urban Orienteering EventHanley Urban Event – A Regional Event being part of the 2018 UK Urban Orienteering League

Event Information :

Parking and Assembly is in Central Forest Park, Hanley

Directions:

From City Centre, take the B5047 Town Road off the A50 Potteries Way towards Smallthorne, Central Forest Park is a short way on the left. It can easily be reached on foot from the City Centre or by one of the many buses that run along Chell Street. The park has National Cycle Network Route no. 55 running through the centre, and links with the Burslem to Cobridge greenway to the North and the NCN Route 5 to the South. There is a car park off Chell Street, by the lake.

Bus services:
6, 6A every 10 minutes.
8, 8A every 10 minutes.
18 every 20 minutes.

Junior Courses – M/W 10, 12, 14 and 16 will be entirely within Central Forest Park and therefore traffic free.

Entry: Online entry will be the preferred method

Controls will be enabled to work with touch free (SIAC) dibbers as well as the standard punching variety.

The cost of the new map has been paid for by a grant from the Stoke on Trent European City of Sport Award
