17 members made the relatively short trip to Burbage Moor, SYO National event on Sunday 1st March.
Parking was on the roadside which had been closed for the event.
As we got out of the car we were greeted with a strong bitter wind and all wrapped up in many layers including coats which we could leave at the clothing dump.
Cagoules were compulsory as the area is over 400m and extremely exposed, we certainly felt this on the long 1.2km walk to the start!
Luckily, after the start we went down into a valley where it was more sheltered.
A unique part of the area was the Burbage boulders section which all TD5 courses entered at the end on a 1:2000 map.
This seemed to work quite well and once you adjusted to the new map scale, I thought it was an interesting section and you could use the big boulders to navigate.
On to the results which were an extremely mixed bag for POTOC members as usual!
On the Brown course Graham Pigott had a good run coming 3rd. David Dunn & John Sammut were exactly the same time, tied 16th!
Short Brown only had 1 runner, Martin Pigott was disappointed with his effort, making over 10 minutes of mistakes to be 14th.
On Short Blue, Mike Derbyshire came a creditable 9th, covering the 4.8k in 74 minutes.
2 members ran Green, Lil Bales came 20th and Marian Denham 47th on the 4.3k course.
On Short Green, Peter Yoxall was 15th in 77 minutes, John Pigott 3 minutes behind in 80 for 19th, Austin Farr 1 min further back in 20th. Unfortunately Morlich Barnett retired.
Very Short Green saw the best result of any of us, Barbara Farr 2nd in 49 minutes. Judy Douglas was 3rd and Jean Rostron 8th.
On the Yellow course were cousins Daniel & Eden Pigott, Daniel went off first and ended up in 7th place just 6 minutes behind the winner.
Eden was going well until control 4, actually in the lead by 30 seconds, but then had a nasty fall going down the hill to 5 and hurt her knee so couldn't continue the race.
We has 1 young competitor on White, Sun Yat Sammut did well coming 7th.
Next Sunday 8th March is DVO Linacre event - details here
